About: I just quit my job and I'm embarking on a life of tech-nomadism. First stop, the Bay Area! It's been 2 weeks of geek tourism so far (1 week to go), and BarCampBlock is the highlight.

I'm not looking for work right now, but I'm *talking* to people about work, so that when I'm ready I'll have a feel for the scene round these parts. So if you're doing something cool in the Open Source/Web2.0 area, I'd love to talk to you. (Edited to add: current obsession is Freebase, ZOMG!!!1)

My personal projects right now are all clustered around getting Perl out of its rut. I've been doing Perl for a decade now and as a language Perl is still going strong, has a great set of tools and frameworks built around it, and is being used by more people than ever. You wouldn't know it, though. So I want to fix that.

Meanwhile, I'm looking for fun stuff to do and great places to visit. I'm hoping to spend a month or so in Vanuatu soon helping a friend out with some Linux/Wifi/etc stuff bringing teh intertubes to the more remote islands. Where next after that? Who knows?

What are your favorite websites? Wikipedia, Lileks.com
What do you do when you AREN'T online? Textile art, farmers' markets, travel, tall ships, British colonial history, scribbling in a moleskine.
Are you working on a startup? Which one? What's it about? Not yet! Just personal projects bursting out of every orifice.
List your 'tags' here perl, web2.0, community, evangelism, open source, travel, queer, history, colonial
What are you planning on presenting on (or leading a discussion on)? Just put me in charge of the hallway track ;)
How did you find out about BarCampBlock? Upcoming.org and/or by being friends with one of the organisers
